Contest Rules and Mechanics

1.    Contest Mechanics

1.1.  KGAL and KSHO radio along with their respective web sites will run promotional announcements inviting individuals to nominate a teacher to be the “Concept Systems Feature Teacher” of the month.

1.1.1.     KGAL and KSHO shall run a minimum of 60 60-second commercials per month noting the “Concept Systems Feature Teacher” contest. Said announcement shall note the sponsor(s), the prize, and the basic contest rules.

1.1.2.     KGAL and KSHO shall from time to time run a special specific contest rules commercial noting specific contest rules and mechanics.

1.1.3.     KGAL shall post on it’s web site the contest rules

1.1.4.     KGAL shall have available at station (and if applicable retail sponsor locations) the contest rules, in hard copy.

1.2.  Entries can be submitted to KGAL/KSHO via the following methods:

1.2.3.     KGAL/KSHO E-Mail

1.2.4.     KGAL/KSHO Web Input

1.2.5.     Drop off at KGAL/KSHO station

2.      Eligibility requirements

2.1.  Eligibility of Nomination

2.1.1.     Contest is open to anyone within earshot of KGAL/KSHO who is a resident of the state and  lives in Oregon

2.1.2.     Entries must be 500 words or less or a drawing that fits on an 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper (or  less). Entries that do not comply with this requirement will not be considered.

2.1.3.     Only one nomination (entry) per person per monthly judging period.

2.1.3.1.          One Entry per person per judging period will be accepted. This would be up to 9 entries for 2004-2005 school year.

2.1.3.2.          Multiple entries in single judgment period (26th of month to 25 of following month) will be eliminated.

2.1.4.     Entry Requirements

2.1.4.1.          Entries must include a legible name, address and phone number of person submitting the nomination. 

2.1.4.1.1.    Email and Web Nominations must also include e-mail address of the entrant.

2.1.4.2.          Entries also must state the nominated teacher’s full name, district and school at which they are employed and the grade he/she teaches.

2.1.4.3.          Entries name, address and phone number (and email address if required) must be verifiable.

 

2.2.  Eligibility of Nominated Teacher

2.2.1.     Nominated teacher must teach in Oregon.

2.2.2.     Nominated teacher must be presently employed at least ˝ time

2.2.3.     Teacher must be employed (as noted above in Paragraph 2.2.2) in Public Sector School or in State Accredited Private School in Grades K through 12.

2.2.4.     Teachers may not use the contest as a classroom exercise to write letters nominating themselves or fellow co-workers.  Although we do encourage teachers to inform their students of about the contest so that they may write a letter or create a drawing on their own time.

2.2.5.     KGAL/KSHO, and the Contest Judging Committee may deem a nominated Teacher ineligible for reasons including but not limited to: loss of Employment, Loss of Teaching Eligibility, Criminal Activity or other reasons that the Judging Committee deems Nominated person not eligible.   

3.      Winner Determination

3.1.  There will be a contest-judging committee consisting of three individuals. One representative from Concept Systems, one from KGAL/KSHO and a third individual.  This third  individual should have some teaching experience but need not be currently in the Teaching Profession.

3.1.1.     The three (3) Concept Systems Teacher Feature Committee members at this time are:

3.1.1.1.           Leanne Gurney- Concept Systems

3.1.1.2.           Jim Willhight- Operations Manager KGAL/KSHO

3.1.1.3.           Ray Pietz- Former Teacher and KGAL/KSHO News Anchor / Sports Director

3.1.2.     If needed, a replacement of any of the three-committee members of will be approved with the approval of the remaining committee members.

3.1.3.     The committee, at the unanimous approval of the current committee, may add additional committee members as the need arises or as the committee sees fit.

 

3.2.  Judging of Entries

3.2.1.     We will scale the entries first based on (1) sheer number of entries per teacher and (2) based on content of the letter/drawing

3.2.2.     The Committee reserves the right to change the weighting of the judging criteria, with the unanimous approve of all committee members.

3.2.3.     The Committee reserves the right to add to the judging criteria, or modify the judging criteria with the unanimous approve of all committee members.

 

3.3.  Entry Deadline:

3.3.1.     Cut-off date for entries will be the 25th of each month, beginning September 2005.  If entries are submitted via first class mail, they must be received no later than on 11:59 pm on 25th day of the month. 

3.3.2.     Any entries submitted after the 25th of the month at Midnight will be held over to the next month’s contest, with May 25, 2005 being the last possible date for entry to the contest for the 2004 - 2005 Teacher Feature Award Period.

3.3.3  (Added 9/29/2004) All entires from previous months will be held over for the following month for the annual award period (September 1 to May 25th of each school year).

 

3.4.  Winner Announcement

3.4.1.     The winner will be announced sometime during the following month of each nomination period.

3.4.2.    The winner announcement date and time will be posted on the www.kgal.com web site prior to the nomination date and time.

3.4.3.      The winner announcement will be made on News Talk 1580 KGAL and 920 KSHO and shall be repeated though the month.

3.4.3.1.          The initial Monthly Winner Announcement will be done by Radio Ray (or fill in) at 7:45 am on date indicated in this paragraph.

3.4.3.2.          From that period the announcement will be done on a Computer Schedule Rotation on three schedules:

3.4.3.2.1.    Monday-Friday, 6am – 7 pm: 30 Announcements per month of KGAL and 30 Announcements per month on KSHO.

3.4.3.2.2.    Saturday & Sunday (6am – 7 pm): 30 Announcements per month of KGAL and 30 Announcements per month on KSHO.

3.4.3.2.3.    Monday-Sunday (7 pm – 6am): 30 Announcements per month of KGAL and 30 Announcements per month on KSHO.  

3.3.3.2.4   The announcement schedule, period and length of announcements may be modified at the discretion of 1580 KGAL

3.4.4.     Monthly Prize Winner’s name will be posted on the KGAL/KSHO website within 24 hours of the winner being announced.

 

4.      Monthly Prize(s)

4.1.  KGAL/KSHO Prize: Winning Teacher will receive 40 30-second radio commercials (20 on each station).

4.1.1.     Commercials have a fair market value of $500.00, but may not be redeemed for cash value.

4.1.2.     Commercials must be used by Teacher to promote non-profit cause such as school events, certified non-profit organization community events, church events and so forth.

4.1.3.     Commercials cannot be used for promotion of any commercial event or business or for political advertising of any type.

4.1.4.     All commercials must be utilized in one flight/schedule promoting one event of Teacher’s choosing.

4.1.5.     KGAL/KSHO reserves the right to edit any submitted commercial request from the winning teacher. 

4.1.6.     Winning Teacher will be encouraged to utilize commercials within month of being featured but this is not a requirement.

4.1.7.     Commercial Prize must be used by Date on Prize Certificate or will be forfeited and may not be redeemed for cash value.

4.2.  KGAL/KSHO or associated client advertiser will provide a gift certificate for food or merchandise in a value of approximately $100.00 minimum monthly.

4.3.  Concept Systems will provide a cash prize to Monthly Winning Teacher of $100.00 and The Tutoring Club a cash prize of $100.00. 

4.4.  KGAL/KSHO or Concept systems may increase the prize in the form of gift certificates and/or cash at their discretion.

 

5.      Grand Prize Determination

5.1.  The nine winning teacher’s names will go into a drawing to determine the winner of the grand prize. The Grand Prize drawing will be done between the period May 26, 2006 and June 30, 2006.

5.1.1.     The Announcement of the Grand Prize will be done same as indicated in Paragraph 3.4 of these Rules and Contest Mechanics.

6.      Grand Prize:

6.1.  The grand prize as follows:  

       6.1.05 Grand Prize Winning Teacher will be provide ( by Concept Systems Inc) for the use of the teacher and to be kept in the sole possession of the winning teacher  a new Dell Desktop PC – to include a computer, monitor, keyboard and mouse. The PC will be loaded with Windows and MSOffice.

6.1.1.  The winning Teacher's classroom (school) will be awarded  Six  (6) Personal Computers plus keyboard, monitors, mouse and peripherals. These PC's will be used and maybe Desktops, Laptops or a combination of both. They will be running the Windows Operating System and be loaded with MSOffice.

6.1.2.     One (1) Printer

6.1.3.     One Router/Switcher

6.1.4.     Applicable Cat 5 or other connection apparatus

6.2.   The Grand Prize will be awarded to the classroom or School of the Winning Grand Prize Teacher and not for personal gain.

        6. 3   Secondary Grand Prize(s): (1) Summer Tutoring Scholarship from The Tutoring Club.

7.      Local, State and Federal Laws

7.1.   KGAL / KSHO may find it necessary to alter the contest to comply with local, state or federal rules or regulations.  In addition, the need may arise to modify the rules of this contest, but not the material obligations of said contest due to unforeseen circumstances, including but not limited to acts of nature and terrorism.

7.2.  Employees and immediate family of Concept Systems Inc. and Eads Broadcast Corporation are not eligible to participate either through nominating process or being the monthly winning teacher.
